It’s no surprise that I am a punk music lover, within the alternative music genre it is for sure the sub-genre I gravitate to and cover most. Punk combines everything I love, such as gritty vocals and disruptive lyrics meant to grab the listeners attention on important topics.
I came across HummusVacuum this year randomly with a song called “Lexapro Skater.” This song got to me initially from the first lyric: “I am simply nothing but a work in progress” to which I loudly said “SAME” in a coffee shop full of other people. When I tell people I wish people would get back into their garage and make music, this is exactly what I’m talking about. The song relates to existing mental health struggles in such a fun and relatable way that isn’t a serious feeling, but still manages to get the point across.
After listening to this album and nothing but this album since it dropped, it’s up there with the best punk albums of the year for me. If you’re a fan of punk music, check out “G-U-I-L-L-O-T-I-N-E” as I think that song is a great gateway song that will for sure make you want to listen to their entire discography.
