If I asked you to open a dictionary to define emo music, you would absolutely see a picture of this band from Wales. Holding Absence has been together since 2015, creating emo music with a hardcore mix that blends together effortlessly.
Admittedly, I came across their music from Dayseker who had shared last year that an AI band was ripping off their music as well as a band called Holding Absence. On principle, I decided to listen to Holding Absence’s entire discography since their music was being stolen by AI, and became hooked on Holding Absence instantly.
There are rare times when vocals blend so seamlessly with a music style, and lyrics that make it seem the band itself has always been predestined to be an incredible emo band – and that’s how I feel about this band. Imagine my surprise when I found out they’re about to release new music, and are performing at Welcome To Rockville, it was a must see set for me.
I was blown away by their live presence, and found they were playing a song I hadn’t heard called “Reflection” for I believe the first time. My jaw dropped the entire time, the song reminded me of classic Linkin Park and their record with A Thousand Suns in a new way. The lyrics with the hardcore screams and riffs, especially in the beginning of Reflection instantly transported me to Hybrid Theory, while the lyrics continued to deliver the vulnerability I’ve come to love and expect from Holding Absence.
Once I arrived home I found they also released a second single titled “Whisper Of A Dream” which again, from the lyrics, to the music and nostalgic melodies, had my jaw on the floor.
I highly recommend checking out their new singles, and their new album “Modern Life Is Lonely” which comes out August 28th of this year. In my house both of these singles have already gone multi platinum, so I’m eagerly awaiting the day I get to consume the entire record.
