[dropcap]C[/dropcap]oming in heavy from Los Angeles, CA, four-piece metal group Before the Mourning is debuting their album Etherial End, on August 21, 2015, and I have had the luxury of listening to it to give you a first hand opinion of what to expect.

Released under Street Smart Recordings, the album would be a baby that Killswitch Engage and Five Finger Death Punch would have, if Miss May I was the mistress. The music itself is simply intricate, with enough punch to draw new faces into the scene.

To outline some of my favorite tracks, my personal suggestions would be “Another Sleepless Night” and “Raised By Wolves.”

I will say however that the entire album is solid. Within the mixture of heavy, fast paced, in your face metal, there is also a “ballad” for those of you that prefer a softer side titled “Deserter.” The song is a little slow moving, and not my personal favorite, but I’m sure there is someone out there that it will hit home for.

Overall, I must say this production is strong for the scene they are trying to push in to, and holds a large potential to be very appealing live. The pilot track, “The Deception,” is hard hitting from beginning to end and has the pull to leave you wanting more, and immediately being followed by Raised by Wolves.

I would openly suggest both the band and this album to folks who find themselves angry at every day life, thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies, and your stereotypical metalhead.

As solid as the album is, I will honestly state that it is not necessarily a breakout album for the scene.

Before the Mourning are a very talented set of musicians, and have created a solid album, but the sound is very similar to a lot artists searching for the spotlight in front of a crowd of angry individuals trying to stay alive long enough to see the next band. I would recommend everyone listen to it still, it was by no means disappointing, nor would I consider it a waste of time or money.

Just know you’re about to indulge in a hard-hitting mixture of chugging breakdowns, bass drops, loud and angry screams, and some heartfelt, mid-tone clean vocals.

I hope everyone gives both Before the Mourning and their debut album a shot, and I personally hope to see these guys grow and truly show us what they’re holding back.

Keep it heavy, dudes.
