165128-walmart_used_games_kiosk_original[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]es, it is absolutely true. As of March 26th, you can trade in all your used games to the Shinra Corporation…I mean, trade them in to Walmart for store credit! Luckily, this isn’t a kiosk only Red Box-type of deal like Walmart has tried in the past, so we don’t have to worry about dealing with that.

Hopefully, they do not accept blank cases with disc only. We will actually have clerks working at stations to take a look at your game, make sure it’s complete enough and functioning for resell.

This is good.

What could make it better is if Walmart hires someone that actually knows things about video games to place in these sections and it will be golden. Because, to be honest there have been times when I’ve walked into the electronic section of Walmart and the people working there only knew about one thing: stocking.

Unlike Gamestop however, you won’t be able to trade in your games for cash. And you also won’t be able to trade in any of your hardware. They are sticking to software. The chief merchandising and marketing officer for Walmart U.S. Duncan Mac Naughton states that: “They’ll (customers) save money on video games and have the flexibility to spend it however they want.”

And what happens to these used games? Will we have a section of pre-owned games to browse through in store. Or will these go into a warehouse and we have to purchase these pre-owned games online. Another thing yet to be announced is are these going to be current games only? Or will we be able to buy games for older systems as well? I guess we’ll find out in a few days.

So what’s  your opinion on this news?  Do you think this will hurt Gamestop?
