When was the last time you heard a local band that blew you away? So many bands spring up every year and sometimes don’t last very long. Members split and start solo projects or create other bands. It’s got to the point for me in Richmond, Virginia that all the bands start to sound the same and they’re all members from past bands that started out so fresh and different from each other.
I live on the internet. So basically, the music I listen to stems from all over the globe, with Soundcloud and Bandcamp as the two places I look to for music.
Here recently, I happened upon a new band that not only is local to my hometown, but I found in my Facebook News Feed. Someone I used to work with at Hot Topic is now in a band called Captive Eyes. He had posted a video of their new song ‘Nothing’ and here’s what happened when I listened to it:
My mind was melted by fresh molten metal.
I’ve been waiting to hear something like this, especially in the local scene. I love metal music and all the sub genres it spawns, but even with the mainstream bands. It can all sound the same. Nothing that makes anything stand out. Captive Eyes is definitely standing out. Fresh and brutal. The song changes up several times and the break downs are heavy and the lyrics are in your face.
