Mark Wahlberg will be the recipient of this year’s Generation Award at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards.
This award, signified by a “Golden Popcorn,” is the highest honor at the Movie Awards. It is given to an actor or actress who shows only the highest degree of excellence in the roles they play, and who has a personality to match.
Most importantly, the recipient has to have left a mark on their audience.
Former recipients include Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Sandra Bullock, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.
To present the award, MTV is the reuniting cast of the Entourage. Wahlberg was a co-executive producer of the show, as it was loosely based on his experience as an up-and-coming movie star.
Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly, Jerry Ferrera and Kevin Dillon will make their first public appearance together since the HBO series ended in September 2011.
Wahlberg is being recognized for his outstanding work in both film and television throughout his career, including but not limited to: Boogie Nights, The Departed, Ted, Entourage, The Fighter, Contraband, Prisoners and Lone Survivor.
In a promotional video for the award show, Wahlberg is seen at his house with an empty trophy cabinet, saying that his soon-to-be Generation Award is the only award (among his many) that is worthy of being put in there.
The 2014 MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, are set to air on MTV Sunday, April 14 at 9:00.
