Emo’s unite! Sleeping With Sirens have dropped their highly anticipated album An Ending In Itself and it does not disappoint. The album follows the classic emotional and heavy lyricism we’ve come to know and love from SWS, with a nostalgic twist that still feels like a breath of fresh air.
The overall themes expressed in this album have to do with overcoming anxiety, the importance of surviving with mental illness and deeply felt love. I personally love when a song is devastatingly hopeful or loving, and to me that is explored effortlessly in this album a lot. The title track is audibly a validation of how exhausting it can be to live with mental illness, while encouraging the listener to not give up. Other songs like “Forever/Always” cut deep at the heart strings, speaking of such a grounded love that propels us through the hardest times of our lives.
My personal favorites off this record are “Paralyzed” (which can elicit a good cry if you’re interested), “House Of Matches” and “Forever/Always”.
We caught Sleeping With Sirens’ set at Welcome to Rockville last month, and just this past weekend the band played Vans Warped Tour in Washington, D.C.
