Welcome to Rockville saw some severe weather on Friday in true Florida fashion, and unfortunately it came at the expense of Poppy’s set.
Around 5:55pm, Rockvillians arriving to Apex stage we’re presented a warning stating they were monitoring a severe weather system, and would give updates if evacuations were needed soon.
At 6:06pm, just one minute into Poppy’s set, Rockvillians were told to evacuate to their car, camping if applicable or the grand stand at the turn one entrance to wait out the storm. The storm warned of lightning in the area, hail and possible strong wind gusts.
Around 8:15, Rockville made the announcement that the area was clear, and re-entry became available to at about 8:35pm with some sets being cut, Poppy being one of them, and other sets being pushed back to accommodate.
Welcome to Rockville did an incredible job of notifying fans ahead of severe weather, as most Rockvillians had enough time to seek shelter before things got soggy. Hopefully those cut acts will get time to shine, but it is unlikely they’ll get their entire performance rescheduled.
In the event of an evacuation at Welcome To Rockville, or any festival, make sure to have a meeting spot in place for groups, to stay calm, and move to your car or any shelter in place provided by the venue as you wait to continue rocking on.
