The Plot in You successfully released their fourth full-length  album Dispose last week. The album takes a step back from the bands traditional heavy metal sound. However, the album is far from a disappointment.

The first single “Feel Nothing” was released alongside the announcement that the band has left Stay Sick Records and would be releasing Dispose under Fearless Records.

The album still holds true to certain characteristics the band has always upheld including vocalist Landon Tewers’ seemingly flawless vocals that grab your attention as they flow into his screams.

The opening song “Rigged” has lyrics that grab your emotions right away, as Tewers sings

“What do I say?
They told me that I’m too much to handle
I’ve gotten way too fucking carried away
And damn it’s a shame these fuckers had the best and they blew it”

The entire album carries an emotional toll. Especially seen in the song “I Always Wanted to Leave”. The track is one of the lighter on the album, and has a slight R&B vibe that is new to the band. The spoken word adds to the intimate emotions portrayed.

Continuing the R&B vibe is the track “The One You Loved”, with Tewers soft melodic voice kicking into a more energetic chorus that yells;

“What happened to the one I loved? Was the change in me not strong enough? Was it something else? Cause I tried my best.

What happened to the one I loved? Was the sober me not good enough? Is there someone else? I can’t get through to you.”

One of the heaviest tracks on the album is the first single from the album, “Feel Nothing”. The short yet impactful lyric “I feel nothing for you” contains a gut wrenching emotion that is intensified with Tewers screams alongside the heavier instrumentals.

While the bands sound did change to a lighter note, there are elements of Tewers solo work scattered into the album. For example, the track “Happy” contains a robotic voice that is very similar to that used in his heavy solo work, AI 640.

The closing track “Disposable Fix” has caused some controversy over whether or not it ends the album well. The soft opening leads you to believe it’s similar to the rest of the album until about halfway through where a beat kicks in and Tewers breaks into what are some of the most blunt lyrics on the album;

“Fucked with too many petty bitches, ain’t got time for this shit
Those peasant pussies probably took it but you’ll take what you get”

While one may question this change of pace, it’s all pulled together with one of the most cinematic moments on the album when the drop kicks in. The impact is strong enough that the lack of a heavy instrumental breakdown following it does not lessen the effect. That drop is almost as if releasing the emotions that the album built.

Overall, Dispose is one of The Plot In You’s most successful works. The band will be kicking off the Dispose Album Release World Tour starting the end of this month as they tour with We Came as Romans, Oceans Ate Alaska, Currents and Tempting Fate.

The Plot in You hosted a release party at The Social Room in Detroit, MI to celebrate the album. A full gallery of photos from the party can be found on our Facebook here

Dispose is available for streaming and purchase on all major distributors.
