Album Review: Escape The Fate’s new record Hate Me is “ambitious”

Escape The Fate's new album "Hate Me" is set to drop this Friday, and The Pit's Nate Korczyk says it's certainly ambitious....

ETF[dropcap]A[/dropcap]fter celebrating over 10 years as a band, Escape The Fate are set to release their fifth studio album Hate Me on Friday, October 30th.

Ambitious is one way to describe the album, with the band taking the best of what they do and blending it all into one cohesive album.

“The heaviest songs are the heaviest we’ve ever written, and the poppy songs are the poppiest we’ve ever done. We came to this kind of ‘Who cares what people think of us’realization this time around,” says vocalist Craig Mabbitt.

“Just A Memory” opens up the album and gives the listener a taste of what’s to come. Fast, aggressive, and catchy can all be used to describe this track. Newest addition to the band, Guitarist Kevin “Thrasher” Gruft lets the fans know just why he belongs by performing a solo which showcases his virtuosity.

One of the poppiest songs on the record, “Remember Every Scar” is very reminiscent of your modern pop punk with an anthematic twist. Fast paced and bouncy is one way to describe the song, but the chorus has a massive sound with many layers including symphonic instruments.

Reaching the half way point on the album, “Alive” proves that the band is looking to mark their territory in the Hard Rock scene. Groovy guitar riffs, punching drums, and powerful vocals all blend together in this song to create one of the most memorable songs on the album.

With Hate Me reaching an end, the band closes it out with “Let Me Be.” This is a very different Escape The Fate than most fans are used to, but it creates what is the standout song on the album.  Starting the song with just an acoustic guitar, Mabbitt croons until we reach the chorus where the rest of the band comes in and creates what is a fuller sound.

If you are a fan of Hard Rock, Metal, or Pop Punk, then Hate Me is sure to appeal to you on some level. Make sure to check out Escape The Fate on their current tour in support of the new album!
