Nagurski[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he preseason watch list for the 2015 Bronko Nagurski Trophy was released Friday, featuring 88 players vying for consideration to be the defensive player of the year.

Scooby Wright III – a junior linebacker from Arizona – tops the list and hopes to become the second player to win the award twice after Northwestern’s Pat Fitzgerald in 1995-96.

Ohio State’s Joey Bosa – another first-team FWAA All-American in 2014 – also hopes to earn his chance at the trophy this year. There are five FWAA second-team All-Americans from a year ago on the watch list: Michigan State end Shilique Calhoun, and defensive backs Kendall Fuller of Virginia Tech, Jeremy Cash of Duke, Jalen Ramsey of Florida State and Michael Caputo of Wisconsin.

Every week, the Football Writer’s Association of America will announce the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week each Tuesday through mid-November. Players can be added or removed from the watch list at any time.

The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce five finalists on Nov. 19.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are selected to the FWAA All-American team. After voting from the entire membership, the FWAA All-American Committee select the 26-man first team and the three finalists. Committee members vote via individual ballots to select the winner.

The annual Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet – presented by ACN – will be held on Dec. 7 at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte.
