[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Grand Rapids Griffins announced Wednesday that they have agreed to a one year contract with forward Tyler Barnes.

The Eagan, MN native began his stride to the AHL in Waterloo in the USHL. In the one game he appeared for Waterloo in the 2007-08 season, he had a goal and an assist. He tallied 94 points in 115 games in the following two years for the Black Hawks.

Barnes took his talents to the University of Wisconsin to play for legendary coach Mike Eaves. A productive season his sophomore year in Madison lead to a bigger role with the Badgers.

After four years at Wisconsin, wrapping up his collegiate career with a Big Ten Championship, Barnes signed with San Antonio in the AHL to finish the 2014 season. Barnes collected 2 goals in the 7 games played with the Rampage.

Barnes joins a list of solid signings by the Griffins over the 2014 offseason. Other signings of the Griffins have been Kevin Porter, Andy Miele, and Shane Berchbach. Barnes is expected to fight for a roster spot in Grand Rapids this upcoming September.
