Actor and rapper Jonathan “Lil’ J” McDaniel, German Vega on VH1’s Hit the Floor, has released a pair of new singles.
The track “Like Me” is a collaboration between McDaniel and Compton, California native Bobby Luv. The rap/R&B plea for a girl’s affection serves as the lead single on McDaniel’s new album Born a S.T.A.R.
A second single, Dances on the House, debuted on the June 30 episode of Hit the Floor. According to McDaniel’s Twitter feed, the collaboration with hip-hop artist Garrett Douglas will be available for purchase soon.
McDaniel, who lists his musical inspiration as Michael Jackson and Tupac Shakur, released his first album, All About J in 2001 on Hollywood Records.
McDaniel, who plays the boyfriend of Taylour Paige’s character Ahsha Hayes on the VH1 series, got his first big acting break as Devon Carter, a recurring role as Raven’s boyfriend on the Disney Channel series That’s so Raven.
McDaniel has also appeared in Entourage, Cougartown and The Hive, a series starring Michael Clarke-Duncan and Vivica A. Fox.
Hit the Floor, which follows the ladies of the dance team for the fictional LA Devils pro basketball squad, airs on VH1 Mondays at 9 p.m. ET.
