Tom Petty Radio returned to SiriusXM at 6 p.m. Friday night, in advance of Tuesday’s release of his new album with The Heartbreakers, Hypnotic Eye.

While waiting may be the hardest part for those anticipating the group’s first studio album since 2010, the lineup for the rocker’s takeover of Classic Rewind channel 25 between now and Aug. 3 will feature several special programs aimed to serve the singer’s loyal fans.

The channel will feature music from the new album and Petty’s entire career including his time with The Heartbreakers and the Traveling Wilburys, as well as his solo career.

In addition to music, the station will also air a Town Hall program in which Petty will answer questions from a select group of fans. Listeners will be able to hear personal stories from Petty and his bandmates about each song on the new album.

SiriusXM will also broadcast segments from Petty’s regular show Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure on which he plays rare, classic tracks from his private collection with commentary. The Heartbreakers had their first hit in 1976 with the release of “American Girl” on their self-titled debut album.

They followed that up with “I Need to Know” from the 1978 release You’re Gonna Get It. In 1979, “Don’t Do Me Like That” was released on Damn the Torpedoes.

The group went on to release a series of albums before Petty joined the Traveling Wilburys, a super-group consisting of Petty, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne.

The Wilburys contributed to Petty’s 1989 solo album Full Moon Fever which featured the hits “Free Fallin’,” “I Won’t Back Down,” and “Runnin’ Down a Dream.”

The Heartbreakers have released new music intermittently since 1991. Notable releases include “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” which appeared as one of two new releases on 1993’s Greatest Hits album and the soundtrack the band contributed to She’s the One starring Jennifer Aniston.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will play at DTE Energy Music Theatre Aug. 24 with special guest Steve Winwood. Petty’s Town Hall will air Saturday at 3 p.m.

For rebroadcast times, visit the Town Hall website. Buried Treasure airs Thursdays at 5 p.m. on Channel 27 “Deep Tracks.”
