[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Columbus Crew announced today that they have mutually agreed to part ways with midfielder  Alvaro Rey.

Rey made two appearances with the Crew this season after joining the organization ahead of the FIFA World Cup break in a deal with Toronto FC. The 25-year old from Spain has made a total of 22 appearances in Major League Soccer since 2013.

“Alvaro is returning to his native Spain for personal reasons, and while this is a difficult decision for all involved, we want to support him and his family under trying circumstances,” said Crew Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. ” Even though we are fully immersed in building a strong team, there are some things in life that take precedence, and ultimately this was the right thing to do for Alvaro and his family.”
