In a YouTube video released by NASA, actor, producer, creator and writer Seth Green explains how NASA explores and creates technology not only in space, but much closer to home.
For example, the technology which is used to take high-resolution imagery on Mars also helped create a large-scale image of an entire baseball stadium which allows fans to zoom in and tag themselves online at the game.
“There’s more space in your life than you might think,” said Green.
The video was released on the agency’s website, NASA TV and YouTube channel, and it can be viewed here: http://go.nasa.gov/TFBHZm
The video explains how NASA’s technology used 12 billion miles out in space can also be applied to long-distance travel in planes and on the road.
According to NASA, the Technology Transfer Program aims to find the widest possible applications of innovative technology. The program’s partnerships and licensing agreements allow NASA investments and research to be used find these secondary applications, which can benefit the economy, create jobs and improve quality of life.
“NASA technologies improve our everyday lives, including providing us with safer, cleaner modes of transportation, supporting millions of passengers and packages traveling by air and ground everyday with efficiencies, comfort and safety,” said Daniel Lockney, NASA’s Technology Transfer Program executive. “The program works to bring the cutting-edge technologies developed for NASA missions down to Earth.”
More information can be found through NASA’s Spinoff website or in the agency’s Spinoff 2013 book, which highlights technologies including winglets and improved design for car seats.
