Three Reasons ‘Batfleck’ is a Bad Idea

The world awoke Friday morning to a bold new world; a world with more chin and a Jersey accent. Ben Affleck was announced as the next Batman. Affleck will be donning the cowl in the next installment of the “Man of Steel” Superman series. This news set the Twitterverse, and the rest of the internet, ablaze. The response has been largely negative.

ben-affleck-as-batmanThose staying positive have simply said, “It might work.” Not a very convincing argument. While there are plenty of reasons to hate this casting choice, we at The Pit narrowed it down to three:

1. We remember “Daredevil”…
If you haven’t seen Ben Affleck and his wife, Jennifer Garner, in “Daredevil” …don’t. While the movie can be slightly appealing to the hardcore comic fan, it most certainly is no “Dark Knight.” For a husband and wife, they have the chemistry of two awkward preteens. Ben Affleck’s portrayal of a dark and brooding hero falls flat here. Hey, maybe he can do better? Doubt it.

2. This is the first time Superman and Batman will meet (and most likely battle) on screen…
The two greatest heroes of the DC mythos are meeting for the first time. This epic battle we have all read about and debated about will finally play out before our eyes. And it’s going to be a (mostly CGI) battle between Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck. LAME. Cavill’s “Man of Steel” is a lot more steel than man, and he is going to be locked in battle with a Jersey Boy trying to play the Dark Knight. Ben Affleck is such an everyman, seeing him try to be Batman is going to be rough enough. Now we have to watch him do it on screen with the most boring Superman ever.

3. Let’s face it; “Man of Steel” wasn’t good anyways…
We don’t know what your personal feelings are about the new Superman reboot, but come on. The emotions fall flat, they change everything good about Superman and worst of all, it was boring. If this next movie is anything like the first, we will see a CGI Batfleck punching it out with Superman a couple times, and then spend the rest of the two-plus hours in a boring exposition on why Superman and Batman don’t get along. It most certainly will be a disappointment for the comic fan and movie fan alike.

So there you go; three good reasons why Ben Affleck will make a bad Batman. The bright side is it was never going to be a great movie anyways. Maybe we will be wrong, but like we said, we doubt it.
