thThis week we were treated to the episode titled “Prey” and while it was fairly straightforward, it was definitely exciting. Milton and Andrea have become partners in crime, seeing the need to remove the Governor from power before he destroys everything both groups have worked so hard to build. It’s nice to finally see Milton taking a stand against the Governor’s cruelty, even going so far as to coyly hint at his involvement to the Governor’s face. This is the episode where the Gov really starts to look like the dastardly villain he is, donning a black trench-coat with upturned collar, five o’clock shadow, and his infamous eye-patch. Andrea escapes Woodbury and makes a mad dash to the prison to warn Rick’s group of the coming massacre, but the Governor is hot on her trail. After a tense game of cat, mouse, and zombies in an abandoned factory, the Governor recaptures Andrea with salvation tantalizingly close. It seems she’s to be the first victim of his brand new torture chamber.

Why did Milton stop Andrea from shooting the Governor through the grating? I think, at that point, Milton still believes he can pull the Governor back from the brink of whatever madness he’s suffering. They knew each other before the apocalypse and Milton hopes the man he used to know is still in there. The Gov was a sociopath before the zombie plague and now he’s a sociopath with a heart full of vengeance. Not a great combination. Aside from that, shooting him there would just get both Milton and Andrea killed and there’s no guarantee it would stop the war anyways.

Is Tyreese still under the Governor’s spell or is he beginning to see the cracks in the mask? Tyreese is a strong guy in heart, mind, and body. He doesn’t strike me as the type to follow blindly and leave the thinking to other people. After Andrea’s warning and witnessing the creation of the “zombie bomb”, I believe Tyreese is starting to doubt his allegiance. He’s definitely suspicious at the very least. I think right now he’s just playing along while he investigates things further. On the other hand, his pal Allen is a major tool and needs to end up in a zombie’s gullet.

Why didn’t Andrea steal the Governor’s truck after giving him the slip in the factory? I thought this was a pretty glaring plot hole. I realize the Governor most likely had the keys on him, but you don’t survive for years in a post apocalyptic environment without learning how to hotwire a vehicle. She could have killed two birds with one stone, securing safe transport and stranding the Governor in zombie territory. Additionally, she didn’t even hear him sneaking up on her in the overgrowth? That’s a stretch.

Who torched the zombies in the pit and trailer? I thought this was pretty obvious, but just in case someone missed it I might as well discuss it. Initially, you’d think it was Tyreese since he had objections to the whole process, but how would he have acquired a vehicle and permission to leave in the middle of the night? After the Governor asks Tyreese how he got the gasoline and Tyreese has no clue what he’s talking about, you know it had to be Milton. He would have had the means and clearance to slip out and torch them. He all but brags about it to the Governor.

I hope you all enjoyed the episode like I did and had any lingering questions answered here. As always, I’d be more than happy to respond to any additional questions and comments you might have. Otherwise, see you dead-heads next week.
