News broke across the internet Friday that two Oakland Golden Grizzlies basketball stars were arrested on accusations of rape in Culver City, Cal. this morning.

Senior guard Duke Mondy and sophomore Dante Williams were both arrested after being accused of rape, being held with $100,000 bail. The pair of basketball stars were released later that day due to lack of evidence.

According to reports, Mondy and Williams were in their room with a woman who later called police at 5 a.m., accusing the pair of sexual assault. Charges were later dropped.

But that didn’t stop judgement from being passed down. Mondy and Williams were both suspended indefinitely for violating program rules. The pair were suspended for having the female visitor in their room past the 1 a.m. curfew head coach Greg Kampe had set for his team.

“I am very apologetic on behalf of Oakland University and our fan base that this happened and that our fan base had to go through this,” Kampe told the Detroit Free Press as a result of the suspensions.

“I suspended them indefinitely until I can get through what happened. It’s not just that they broke curfew. It’s that after hours they had a female in their room and this conduct is not condoned by our basketball program or this university. Until I can get all the facts of what happened, they’re going to be suspended indefinitely.”

Oakland said they will be conducting an internal investigation into the matter with further punishment or a lifting of suspensions coming at a later date.

OU was in town for a game against UCLA Tuesday night, in which they lost 90-61. They played Cal in Berkley, Cal. Friday night as part of the Maui Invitational (Mainland).
