Hockey action has returned to Yost.

Michigan took to the ice Saturday in exhibition play against Simon Fraser, routing the visitors for the 8-1 victory.

The Wolverines scored three times in the opening period. Jackson Hallum (7:15) scored a shorthanded goal, while Kienan Draper (8:22) and Nick Moldenhauer (14:03) added the others.

In the second period, Rutger McGroarty (1:54) scored on the powerplay. Frank Nazar III (4:28) and Garrett Schifsky (7:57) also scored while McGroarty notched his second with seconds remaining. 

Seamus Casey scored Michigan’s final goal of the game in the early parts of the third (02:57).

Simon Fraser finally got on the board with a goal of its own from Walker Erickson (4:50).

Casey had a hand in more than half of the Wolverines’ scores on Saturday, notching the one goal himself and assisting on four more. 

Goalie Jacob Barczewski earned the win after playing for 30:15 and stopping 11 shots. Noah West played the latter half of the game and stopped seven attempts.

The season begins properly next weekend, when Michigan hosts Providence in contests on Saturday (7 PM) and Sunday (4 PM).
