On Monday night, Florida State’s standout freshman guard Malik Beasley declared for the 2016 NBA draft. Beasley announced his decision on twitter.

The three time ACC Rookie of the Week and All-ACC freshman team member really changed the game for incoming freshmen. Beasley not only scored in double figures in 30 of his 34 games played, he also finished his collegiate career averaging 15.6 points per game, shooting 39% from behind the arc and 47% from the field.

Malik caught some by surprise with his decision to declare for the NBA draft, as the 6’5 freshman is the first player in Florida State history to enter the NBA Draft after just one year. Draft boards have him pegged as early as 17th and as late as 29th overall.

NBADraft.net has Beasley going 17th overall to the Boston Celtics (as a Celtic fan, I would not complain). DraftExpress.com anticipates Malik going 28th to the Phoenix Suns. Finally, CBS Sports’ NBA Big Board predicts the San Antonio Spurs drafting him 29th, a move the young guard probably would not have a problem with, jumping on a team that makes a run at The Finals year after year.

If drafted, Malik Beasley will be the first ‘Nole taken since 2012, when Bernard James was drafted with the 33rd overall pick. The draft will take place on June 23rd.
