[dropcap]R[/dropcap]ay McDonald was given a second chance, a new start with a new organization and the Chicago Bears.

That second chance was taken away Monday as the Bears released McDonald after he was arrested earlier on Monday in California on domestic violence and child endangerment charges.

McDonald was arrested around 7 a.m. local time Monday after officers said he “physically assaulted the victim while she was holding a baby.” This was according to Santa Clara Police.

McDonald had signed a one-year non guaranteed contract in late March for $1.05 million.

“We believe in second chances, but when we signed Ray, we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bear,” General Manager Ryan Pace said in a statement. “He was not able to meet the standard and the decision was made to release him.”
