[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ony Pictures Animation recently announced that comedian, director, and performer Mel Brooks to join the cast of Hotel Transylvania 2. In the film, Brooks will voice the character of Vlad, Dracula’s father. The sequel will also see the return of Selena Gomez voicing the character Mavis, Andy Samberg as Johnathan, and Adam Sandler as the role of Count Dracula.
This time around the story follows Dracula, Mavis, Jonathan and all of their monster friends enjoying life at the hotel, when vampire Vlad arrives at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together without advance notice. The collision between father and son is sure to be a entertaining factor in the film.
Brooks expressed his excitement to take on the role of Vlad 40 years after directing the horror-comedy classic Young Frankenstein: “I’m having a wonderful time with the character Vlad. He’s been around for eons and he’s a pretty crabby guy. Basically, he reminds me of me.”
Sony Pictures Releasing International has also been gaining celebrities around the world to voice the character of Vlad in non-English versions. Some of the actors include Japan’s Junji Inagawa, a well-known narrator of horror films and DVDs; Belgium’s Jacques Vermeire, a recognizable performer with decades of comic television and feature film performances; and France’s Michel Galabru, an admired actor who has appeared in more than 200 films.
Hotel Transylvania 2 is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky and is set for release on September 25, 2015.
