Skillet joined the likes of Shinedown, Papa Roach, In This Moment and We As Human for the Carnival of Madness and their Detroit-area stop Tuesday in Clarkston.
With a positive message and a mix of new and older songs, Skillet got the crowd riled up. Their set began with a traditional violinist and bassist playing an intro that led straight into the band playing “Whispers in the Dark.”
John Cooper, the band’s frontman and bassist, jumped around stage during the song while jamming away. Wife, Korey Cooper, rocked out while shredding on guitar. Drummer Jen Ledger provided her beautiful voice to many of the tracks with a huge smile on her face.
Throughout the 11-song set, the members of Skillet were never without a smile on their faces. They played classic hits such as “Hero” and “Monster” while mixing in the new stuff, like “Sick Of It” and “Rise.”
Skillet’s performance was simple and raw. The most complex element was their use of rising platforms for when they brought back out the violinist and bassist that started the show for the band.
