While the game was never truly out of reach, it certainly felt like it was at times as Michigan fell to Oklahoma, 24-13, in a Top 25 matchup.

The Sooners (2-0) struck first early in the opening quarter when quarterback John Mateer found Deion Burks from nine yards out. Mateer extended the Sooners’ lead just before halftime when he ran the rock home.

Michigan (1-1) looked like it reset after halftime as the first play from scrimmage saw running back Justice Haynes streak downfield on a 75-yard scoring run the make it 14-7. While Oklahoma scored again minutes later, the Wolverines notched a pair of field goals late in the third quarter to make it a one-score game, 21-13.

Unfortunately, the Wolverines got little else going offensively as the Sooners kicked a field goal themselves in the final two minutes for the final score.

Quarterback Bryce Underwood finished just 9-of-24 with 142 yards. The Wolverines posted 146 yards on the ground, with Haynes recording 125 of those yards. Michigan struggled defensively stopping the pass, as Oklahoma racked up 270 yards through the air and 408 total. One bright spot was an interception made by TJ Metcalf.

Michigan will get a chance to bounce back next Saturday when they host Central Michigan at noon.
