It was a Friday night in Detroit, and Movements and Citizen, along with Scowl and Downward took the stage performing what very well may have been the biggest show in the city for the bands to date. The bands packed The Fillmore Theater and the energy in the room was electric.

Downward opened the show with their melancholic and ambient sound, to which Scowl provided the complete opposite. Fast paced, loud and leaning more towards a two-step, hardcore sound.

The show wasn’t billed as a coheadliner, But Citizen always knows how to draw a crowd in Michigan. I can remember seeing the band in 2011 in the well known venue, The Shelter, as a local opener for Senses Fail, performing to maybe 300 people. The band was still in high school and had to leave after their set because they had school the next day. Seeing them come from that to packing out a theater was an incredible experience. Fans voices were echoing throughout, especially during set opener “The Night I Drove Alone.” The band rand through a 10 song set list containing some of the crowd favorites including  ”if You’re Lonely,” ”Sleep,” and ended with “I Want to Kill You.”

Closing out the night was Movements, who clearly love and appreciate Michigan, with this being their third show in just under a year. Most of the set consisted of a balance of their most popular albums “Feel Something” and “Ruckus!” When the band played their new single ”Where I Lay,” which had only been out for around a month, the fans were clearly responding well, yelling the chorus back at the band. The night ended with crowd favorite Daylily which is a staple in any movements show.

The crowd the whole night was super responsive to the bands, singing their hearts out, moshing, and plenty of crowd surfing to go around. It was a perfect example of why bands love performing here.
