In an interview earlier in the month, TPM asked vocalist Brandon Lancaster what sets LANCO apart from other country music acts.
“First and foremost, I would say that we’re a band,” he said. “We’re a band and there is something really special that comes from that when you’re the same group of guys year after year after year. Same group of guys challenging themselves and challenging each other creatively. … We’ve got five guys in the band so you have five different guys bringing in five different influences and five different perspectives and points of view.”
Those influences and perspectives were on full display when LANCO brought the ‘We’re Gonna Make It’ Tour to Joe’s Live in Rosemont on Friday, February 28.
As someone who is not a big fan of country music, this show was a lot of fun.
Noah Hicks opened the night, bringing a lot of energy to a packed concert hall. During his third song, he mentioned that his band wanted to play a song that they don’t normally perform and had to restart three times. But Hicks was all over the stage during his performance and got the crowd ready for LANCO.
The headliners took the stage with a lot of energy and packed what felt like a full performance in just their first three songs. During their third song of the set, drummer Tripp Howell came out from behind the kit with a tambourine as the full band gathered around Lancaster center stage as they played. This isn’t a solo act, this is a band.
Later in the set, Lancaster set an arm chair center stage as the band again gathered around him to play a few songs with lower energy. These included covers and original work before Lancaster and his guitarist entered the crowd for more than a few minutes, where they played a short cover of Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar We’re Going Down” and more.
LANCO touched on both their debut release from 2018 as well as the recently released We’re Gonna Make It, playing songs like ‘We Grew Up Together,’ ‘Honey, I lost My Job Today’ and the title track. They played other hits like ‘Low Class Lovers’ and ‘Greatest Love Story.’
Seven dates remain on this tour for LANCO, and we recommend checking them out. Photos of their performance in Chicago are below.
