Former Michigan wideout AJ Henning showed nothing but love to his former recruiter and coach, Sherrone Moore, at Big Ten Football Media Days on Tuesday in Indianapolis.

“Really happy for him — that’s my guy!” said the Northwestern star.

Following a College Football Playoff National Championship victory and the departure of former head coach Jim Harbaugh, Moore was named the new Wolverines coach this past January.

Henning, who transferred to Northwestern University and played the 2023 season for the Wildcats, played his first three seasons under Harbaugh and Moore in Ann Arbor.

“He was my area recruiter, so you know, he came to my school a ton, high school, in-home visits — he’s there. Line of communication, he was always there in high school,” said Henning. “And then having that point of communication from the recruiting process until when I got there and just being comfortable to him being around. We built a great relationship.”

Through his first three years at Michigan, Henning caught a total of 25 catches for 198 yards. During his second season in 2021, he carried the ball nine times for 162 yards and two touchdowns. He served heavily on special teams with the Wolverines, earning All-Big Ten honors as a return man.

During the 2023 season, his first with Northwestern, Henning recorded 45 receptions for 418 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 27 carries for 110 yards and a score. In December, he recorded six receptions for 57 yards against Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Wildcats won, 14-7.

Northwestern travels to Ann Arbor on November 23 in Henning’s first return to the Big House since his transfer. Henning said he has that date circled on his calendar and he’s excited to see coach Moore again.

“Seeing him and all he’s been able to accomplish — when I got there, he was a tight end’s coach to now, you know, head coach of Michigan football. That’s a very big accomplishment. I’m happy for him and excited to see him this year.”
