After a long season infatuated on drama, heartbreak, young phenoms and as always when it’s said and done — a playoff field. In a hobby associated with being as simple as a flip of a coin. We take a wild turn towards the profits of the science that truly goes into figuring out that flip. Let’s play analyst and tame this self proclaimed wild and wacky NFL weekend.
Upset of the Week
Miami Dolphins (+199) over Kansas City Chiefs (-229): In this seasons latest attempt at the “Ice Bowl” the typically sunny side up dolphins dive into the cold tundra of the concrete jungle of Kansas City. This team prefer the rays of Miami, but this time playing KC in the USA is all the edge they need to knock off annual Super Bowl contender KC. Hill and Waddle with the help of the arm talent of Tua will show speed knows no weatherly bounds. I got a Phelan it’s Miami 31 KC 24
Money Line
Detroit Lions (-160) over Los Angeles Rams (+144): The Rams have been nothing short of inspiring this season, but the Lions and their fan base will be saying the same thing. Looking to end a playoff win drought that dates back to a point that Lions fans cry. Two storybook seasons come together. One ends. One continues. The storylines are plentiful among Goff and Stafford. Puka and St.Brown. I expect the team out of motor city to continue their drive to the next obstacle that soon will await. I got a Phelan it’s Lions 42 Rams 31
Spreads
Philadelphia Eagles (-3 at -105) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3 at -115): Yes I know Philly has looked more like the number one pick in the draft than a playoff team the last 5 weeks or so, but this is win or go home. I expect a different passion and energy on both sides of the ball that reflects the dominant team we watched half a season ago. There’s flaws and disarray, but the pure magnitude of what’s at stake and the feel of a championship window closing is enough to at least get them into the divisional round. The Mayfield resurgence has been fun to watch, but it ends here at home to a truly more talented Eagles team. I got a Phelan it’s Eagles 24 Buccaneers 17
I’m leaving the pics to the teams this weekend. I think something about the first week of the NFL playoffs revolves around teams in desperation to build momentum to carry them deeper into the postseason. All sorts of players will shine and in the end I’m interested in picking the survivors of the battles we are about to witness. An upset, a money line, and a spread. Let’s go on a run friends. As always stay safe and good luck.
