Reacting to the 2024 Sonic Temple lineup release

While the headliners leave much to be desired, the rest of the bill makes up for it

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages — the moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived.

I’m talking about the lineup drop of the 2024 Sonic Temple Arts and Music Festival.

Returning to the Historic Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio from May 16-19, 2024, Sonic Temple will feature headliners Disturbed, The Original Misfits, Pantera and Slipknot. I will get into my thoughts on this line up in a little bit, but for now, lets cover some bands showing up at this year’s festival.

First-timers

I’m seeing quite a few first timers that I am really excited about.

I’ve been talking to some friends for a couple months and I said that they should/would get Electric Callboy and Sleep Token. Low and behold, both are set to appear. Electric Callboy will be appearing on the first night while Sleep Token is set to appear on night three.

Another first timer, also set to appear on Saturday will be the all impressive Slaughter to Prevail, who most recently sold out their entire American tour. I expect a massive crowd when all three of these bands take their respective stages. We also have the Sonic Temple debut of the great Kerry King and his solo band.

Veterans

Now, lets dive into some veterans on this years lineup.

There are quite a few of them and some might say, “oh, I’m tired of seeing the same ole bands.” Blah blah blah and I feel you, however, some of these veteran bands are ones I don’t mind seeing multiple times. I’m talking about bands like Breaking Benjamin, A Day To Remember, Clutch, Baroness, Judas Priest, Tech N9ne and so many more. This years announcement has me — and many others — very excited. I’ve already seen comments like, “now this is the lineup we’ve been wanting.”

Hell, we’re even getting Kittie. Yes, that Kittie. The all-female fronted metal band that’s been around since the late 90’s.

Headliners

Alright, let me dive into my thoughts on the headliners.

To many, you’re probably really pumped, as you should be. To me? I’m just sitting here like meh, I’m alright on those.

Listen, before you start yelling and judging me, hear me out. I’ve seen Disturbed so many times in my 25 years of attending concerts that its just the same performance from them each time. Slipknot, I would normally be happy with, but with their recent drama and the last couple of albums not really doing it for me, I can pass on them. I just saw Pantera on the Metallica tour and you’re in for a delight. They sounded like they never stopped. I will stay for them so I can see the crowd reaction from those who haven’t seen them yet. I’ve also never been the biggest Misfits fan so I guess you can say I’m neutral on that one.

The rest of this lineup though, is extremely stacked and you should be pumped. Now, if Danny Wimmer Presents can get some better food options and bring back more of the arts aspect of this festival, then I fully believe the 2024 Sonic Temple Arts and Music Festival will be one for the ages.

I’ll give you a bonus of MY top 5 bands to check out:

  • Sleep Token
  • Electric Callboy
  • The Ghost Inside
  • Slaughter to Prevail
  • Magnolia Park
