Welcome folks to Week 3 of the I’ve Got A Phelan sportsbook guide. Last week as scores finalized and the dust settled, we got a stark reminder of the pain this game can inflict. Even a “master” can fall victim to a run of bad luck.
My hometown Tigers helped me save face, but in the end I suffered my first losing week of the young season. I am determined to prevent the same fate from bestowing myself and most importantly my readers. The stats have been studied, the numbers have been crunched, and the matchups analyzed. Without further ado let’s dive into this action packed weekend of NCAA and NFL football.
Upsets Of The Week
Let’s pick this weeks soon to be favorite underdog stories. Which teams will shock the nation and put power rankings in limbo? I always love the saying that “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” These hail marry shots will be answered.
NFL upset of the week
Carolina Panthers (+200) over the Seattle Seahawks (-240): his week the now Andy Dalton lead Panthers find themselves 0-2. The only loss that will be suffered this week will be the 0 in the win column as it’s going to be a 1-2 start when this one is over. Seattle is a wildcard to this point, but I think they have a habit of over looking mediocre teams. Hence why they lost to the Rams week one, but upset the Detroit Lions in week two. Losing Bryce Young this week will be a blessing in disguise. I do believe he is the future, but he’s playing rookie ball. Dalton is experienced and will lead this offense all the way to the first victory or their campaign.
NCAA upset of the week
Iowa (+460) over Penn State (-600): In a top 10 shake up Penn State fails there first test against a stout opponent. Iowa is a well rounded and balanced team. They are fired up after putting it all together last week. Maybe not against a high level team, but you can feel them start to click. On the other side Penn State played a closer than expected game in my opinion against Illinois. This is by far the toughest defense the Nittany Lions have seen on the year and I think this one stays low scoring as the Hawkeyes win it with a game winning field goal.

NFL Prediction
Cincinnati Bengals (-140) over Los Angeles Rams (+120): These Bengals have not looked like themselves through two weeks. That’s about to change. Burrow is going to regain form and the trip of Chase, Boyd, and Higgins is going to wayyyy to much for LA to handle. This line is close due to the questions regarding Burrows injury. I can’t say if he’ll play or not unfortunately, but either way I think the preseason superbowl contender will knock off the preseason number one overall pick contender.
NCAA Prediction
Notre Dame (+140) over Ohio State (-160): In arguably the biggest game of the week for the NCAA the fighting Irish knock out the Buckeyes. Hartman is quietly gaining heisman recognition and the momentum for the team is growing exponentially by the week. Notre Dame is on the wrong side of history in this one. They haven’t knocked off Ohio State since 1936. Things are about to change. Expect fireworks, but banking on ND will do wonders for your bank account.

NFL Prediction
Las Angeles Chargers (+1 at -110) over the Minnesota Vikings (-1 at -110): The Chargers are so explosive and I am surprised they aren’t favored here. Herbert is going to pillage these Vikings and send a shockwave through the NFL in what I feel could be a statement win for LA. They are always one piece away from being contenders or fall hard to the injury bug. This year I think it falls into place and they make a deep run. Starting with forcing J-Jet into a crash landing and getting too 1-2 and finding there groove.
NCAA Prediction
Oregon State (-2 and 1/2 at -118) over Washington State (+2 and 1/2 at -102): Former Clemson QB Uiagalelei is looking like what Clemson thought they had when they recruited him. He continues to impress in a hostile environment and moved a case to have Oregon and Oregon State in the top 10 by the end of the week. I’ll be dammed (beaver joke) if Oregon State can’t pull this one off.
Wolverine Winner
Michigan Spread (-24 at -110) and the over (43 and 1/2) parlay for odds of (+250): Okay Wolverine faithful this week feels like a high scoring blow out to make another statement to the NCAA world. I have full faith in my Wolverine Winner this week. I’m keeping it simple and too the point. Wolverines slice the Rutgers and continue there March for a National Championship. Harbaugh should take these men out for cheeseburgers when this is over.
I kept it simple this week y’all. This should be a get back on track type of weekend. I’m staying away from props and things this week in hopes of gaining back the mojo we started with. Let’s take in the winnings together and enjoy this lovely time of year with loved ones as the leaves change and Fall approaches it’s time to strap in as teams settle in to there groove. The early season hiccups and jitters should subside and we are going to see the real version of the biggest names. This week will go a long way in the landscape of both the NCAA and the NFL.
