Northwestern players opt out of media days

Citing the ongoing hazing scandals, Wildcats will not appear in Indianapolis

Just 24 hours before Big Ten Football Media Days are slated to begin in Indianapolis on Wednesday, Northwestern’s scheduled student-athletes have opted out of their appearance.

Bryce Gallagher, Rod Heard II and Bryce Kirtz released a statement via Northwestern Football social channels relaying the news. Their reasoning is that “we did not want our participation to be dominated by the hazing issue and steal focus away from football and the upcoming season.”

Earlier this month, former head coach Pat Fitzgerald was released from his duties following a tumultuous weekend in which alleged hazing allegations ballooned into a full-blown scandal. Since then, various lawsuits have been filed and deeper corruption within the athletics department has come to light, most notably within the baseball program.

Head coach David Braun is still slated to appear.

TPM will be in attendance at Big Ten Football Media Days. Stay with us for coverage this week!
