Bonzie Colson’s 21 points and 10 rebounds leads Notre Dame past Virginia 71-58 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. The Irish will face Florida State Friday.
Notre Dame built a 14-4 lead within the first six minutes of action, taking and holding the lead after a minute had passed. Entering the half with a 32-26 advantage, the Irish scored the first 11 points of the second half to build a lead that would never dip below 10 points from there on out.
Colson’s 19th double-double is an ACC-best, marking his eighth game with a 20-point, 10 rebound performance. He went 6-for-14 from the floor with an 8-of-11 mark from the free throw. Matt Farrell added 14 points of his own while seniors VJ Beachem and Steve Vasturia each sunk 12.
The Irish shot 52-percent on the night, going 12-23 in each half of the game.
Third-seed Notre Dame faces No. 2 seed Florida State Friday with tipoff happening 20 minutes after the conclusion of Duke vs North Carolina, which has a 7 P.M. EST start.
