Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, mother and daughter and both renowned actors, passed within a 24-hour time span. Reynolds was 84, and Fisher was 60.
Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in “Star Wars,” was a pioneer of feminism and mental health awareness. Her mother, Reynolds, starred in 1952 classic “Singin’ in the Rain,” and was one of the most influential actresses in the ’50s and ’60s.
Fisher passed away the morning of Dec. 28, after suffering heart issues while on a flight the previous week.
Reynolds’ son, Todd Fisher, said Carrie’s death “was too much” for their mother, and many media outlets are reporting that her last words were, “I just want to be with Carrie.” She died on Dec. 29.
“She’s now with Carrie and we’re all heartbroken,” Fisher said from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where his mother was taken by ambulance earlier Wednesday.
