Michigan downs Marquette 79-61 at MSG
The finals of the 2K Classic is set after Michigan’s Thursday night drubbing of Marquette 79-61 at Madison Square Garden. The Wolverines will face SMU in the championship game on Friday night.
Zak Irvin led the Wolverines (3-0) with 16 points while Muhammad- Ali Abdur Rahkman and reserve Mark Donnal tallied 15 points each. DJ Wilson had his first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Duncan Robinson also scored 10 points, rounding out the double digit scorers for the Wolverines.
Michigan led by as many as 29 and never let the lead get below 12 on the night. The Wolverines scored 10 consecutive points to pull away from the Golden Eagles by the end of the first half and held a 50-26 lead.
The Wolverines as a team shot a season high 51 percent (27-53) from the floor and held the Golden Eagles to just 41 percent shooting (22 for 54) on the night. Their 39 percent shooting from the arc was the best so far on this young season.
Friday should be a great test on this early season as Michigan will be facing a quality SMU team that beat Pittsburgh 76-67.
