For the second consecutive game, the Fighting Irish have held an opponent to under 50 points and scored over 80 points as Notre Dame thumped Loyola Maryland, 83-48.
Again, VJ Beachem led the team with 21 points, going 8-of-15 with a 3-of-7 mark from beyond the arc. Martinas Gebben notched a career-high 10 rebounds while Bonzie Colson sunk 19 points.
As the season began, head coach Mike Brey was concerned that the team may lack chemistry in the early goings, and despite some slow starts, Notre Dame (3-0) has dominated against early opponents. Early on, the Irish trailed 10-6, but a three-point assault tipped the needle in Notre Dame’s favor, giving the Irish the momentum.
Notre Dame held the Greyhounds (1-3) to just 29.6-percent shooting, going 16-of-54. This is the second game for the Irish where they’ve held an opponent below 30-percent shooting.
Competition picks up this week though, as Notre Dame travels to Brooklyn to face Colorado at the Barclay’s Center in the semifinals of the Legends Classic.
