John Sansone has been a catalyst in Florida State’s lineup for four years. Sansone has played in 245 games during his time in Tallahassee, starting in 219 consecutive games. He’s been a rock for Mike Martin since his arrival in 2013.
Batting .365 with 62 RBI, Sansone has been one of the few sure things for this young team, who has battled everything from the multiply weather delays and cancelations, season ending injuries, and a lengthy end of the year slump.
Sansone has talked about his time coming to an end at Florida State on several occasions this season, admitting that the reality has not hit him yet.
“These last few practices have been weird,” Sansone said. “I’m just trying to take every moment in.”
As the lone senior on the field and in the lineup, Sansone means far more to this team than his offensive production. With six underclassmen in the lineup, Sansone gives the senior presence that you need to have in the lineup to be good.
With his priorities set on post-season baseball, Sansone is not one to focus on the end of his college career.
Referring to his time at Florida State, Sansone said, “It’s been fun. The goal is to get to Omaha though.”
FSU will kick off regional play at 6 P.M. against Alabama State on Friday night in order to pursue their goal of going to Omaha, Nebraska and playing in the College Word Series.
“Every pitch is more intense. Every pitch means more.” Sansone said when asked about the difference between post-season baseball and the regular season. “We could lose two games and be done. We have to have our hearts in every play.”
While the Louisville All-American likely has a bright future in the game of baseball, John Sansone’s only focus right now is getting this Florida State baseball team to Omaha.
