With the fifth-overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted cornerback/safety Jalen Ramsey out of Florida State. This is FSU’s 43rd first-round pick in program history, and the eighth first-round pick under head coach Jimbo Fisher.
Born in Tennessee, Ramsey made an immediate impact in Tallahassee. He was the first freshmen to start at corner since Deion Sanders, who was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2011.
In three years at FSU, Ramsey racked up 181 total tackles – 15.5 of those were for a loss – and forced seven turnovers.
Ramsey will make his presence known as soon as he gets to Jacksonville; the versatility he brings to the football field is really what makes the 6-foot-1 corner so special.
Ramsey will be able to play cornerback against your bigger, more physical wide receivers in the NFL like Andre Johnson or Brandon Marshall while also being able to play safety and help lock down those tight ends that are becoming such a problem in the league like a Greg Olsen or Jordan Cameron.
Jacksonville has quietly been putting together all the pieces. The Jaguars are not going to win a Super Bowl this year, but they are setting themselves up nicely with a lot of young talent on both sides of the ball.
