[dropcap]U[/dropcap]ndefeated No. 9 Georgia Tech (10-0) came into Tallahassee looking to follow up what the Yellow Jacket’s football and basketball team has managed to do all year – beat the No. 11 Seminoles (10-3).
GAME ONE: FSU 8 Georgia Tech 2
Between Florida State’s hot bats and Mike Compton’s gem of a game led the ‘Noles to an easy victory in game one.
Four different Seminoles hit home runs on Friday night. Darren Miller and Ben DeLuzio hit back to back homers in the third inning, totally in five runs, which blew the game open.
John Sansone and Cal Raleigh joined the long ball party, as Sansone hit his third and Raleigh hit his second of his freshmen season.
Mike Compton’s final line: seven innings pitched, six hits, two earned runs, and six strikeouts.
GAME TWO: FSU 14 Georgia Tech 9
Georgia Tech came out of the gates swinging in Saturday’s matchup, as the Yellow Jackets jumped all over Drew Carlton. Carlton went three innings, while being tagged for 10 hits and five earned runs.
Tech went into the fifth inning with a 5-0 advantage over the Seminoles.
Gage West singled to start the inning, followed by Dylan Busby stepping up and hitting a shot out of deep left center. Two Tech errors in the inning fueled the fire for the Seminoles as they were able to scratch six runs across in the inning to take the 6-5 lead.
FSU would score three more runs in the seventh, followed by five in the eighth.
“Every conference win is a big win, but when you’re down five to a team that’s playing beautiful baseball. It’s just a real credit to our team to get that done today,” head coach Mike Martin said.
GAME THREE: FSU 8 Georgia Tech 3
Freshmen catcher Cal Raleigh and senior DH Quincy Nieporte got FSU going early on Sunday, both recording an RBI in the bottom of the first.
Dylan Busby joined the action in the third inning, scoring Gage West on an RBI triple to center field. Busby was not done in the third though, as the sophomore third basemen homered in the fifth inning, his second home run in as many days.
That was all Florida State’s pitching staff would need. Cole Sands got the nod on the mound, and went 5.1 innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs. He also struck out five Yellow Jacket batters.
Ed Voyles came in to relieve Sands. Voyles went two innings, giving up five hits, no runs, and two strikes outs. Cobi Johnson and Tyler Warmoth closed the door on the series, both striking out two and kept every batter they faced of the base path.
“It makes our staff proud to be a Seminole when they go out and play like they did today,” Mike Martin said, “They didn’t go through the motions, they went out with the intention of getting it done.”
Florida State will turn their attention to their in-state rivals, No. 1 Florida Gators. They square off with Florida on Tuesday night at 7 P.M. in Gainesville. This is the first of three matchups with UF. Freshmen Tyler Holton will get the start.
