[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Seminoles split midweek matchups, one with Jacksonville University on Tuesday, and with Villanova on Wednesday night.

GAME ONE: Jacksonville 7 FSU 3

Tyler Holton got the nod in the Tuesday matchup against Jacksonville. Holton has only appeared out of the bullpen in the short season, but he has been dominate in his two relief appearances.

Holton’s first collegiate start did not go as he wanted. The Dolphins jumped all over the freshmen starter scoring four runs in the second.

Franco Guardascione kicked off the Dolphins four run inning with a deep homerun way over the left field fence. Good two out hitting keep the runs coming for JU as they plated three more runners, one coming off a double by Angel Camacho.

Holton went three complete giving up eight hits, four runs, two earned, while walking and striking out two batters.

Michael Baumann night went a lot better for Jacksonville. Baumann who happens to be the Dolphins ace, was in complete control.

“The starting pitcher (Baumann) pitched a little over five innings and he was dynamite.”  Head coach Mike Martin said.

Baumann who hit 95mph on the night, went 5.1 innings striking out six batters. Baumann only gave up four hits, and one earned run which came on a Cal Raleigh solo homerun.

FSU would make four errors, which fueled much of the Dolphins big innings.

JU would tack on two more in the fifth and one more in the ninth.

GAME TWO: FSU 11 Villanova 10

The bats were alive and healthy in Tallahassee on Wednesday night. FSU and Villanova combined for 13 runs in just four innings of play.

While both starters got hit well early, this game was not decided until the 14th inning.

Florida State scored one run in the seventh inning to bring us to an eight all tie, little did we know that  was going to be the last run scored for the next five innings.

In the 13th inning David Gulati, who homered in the fourth for ‘Nova, hit a double to right field scoring two and pushed Villanova out front 10-8 going into the bottom of the 13th inning.

Tyler Holton who started the game Tuesday, came off the bench to pinch hit for Steven Wells Jr. Holton beat out an infield single to the shortstop. Ben DeLuzio then singled to right field, moving Holton over to third. Cal Raleigh struck out and Matt Henderson flied out to left field. John Sansone then stepped up to the plate, and with two outs and the game on the line, Sansone rips a single through the left side scoring both Holton and DeLuzio to tie it back up at 10 all.

Tyler Holton would again bat in the 14th inning, reaching on a fields choice. A wild pitch advanced Holton to second, while a DeLuzio single pushed Holton to third with one out.

Freshmen Cal Raleigh, who hit his first homerun in the Tuesday matchup flied out to right field. However, it was deep enough for Holton to score from third and the Seminoles walked off to beat Villanova in 14 innings.

FSU will turn around and play St. Johns University in a weekend series. Game one is on Friday at 6 P.M.
