[dropcap]H[/dropcap]ard rock giants, Breaking Benjamin, decided to step away from their usual full electric set and took things down a notch on their most current acoustic tour.

Coming in hot for a sold out crowd at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit, front man Benjamin Burnley knew right away he and the rest of the guys were in for an insane show in Michigan when the crowd cheered for glory as the band started the night with “So Cold,” off of 2004’s “We Are Not Alone” album. Sticking with the 2004 album, the band goes into “Follow” and “Sooner or Later,” where guitarist Keith Wallen stepped in on vocals.

From then on, the band went into three different albums for the next three songs before going into their first cover of the night. I’ve been able to see this band quite a few times now and I have to say, this was the first time I have ever heard them attempt “Message in a Bottle,” originally recorded by The Police. Keith Wallen stepped backed into the spotlight to do vocals on this cover, and even though he messed up the lyrics at some spots, it still sounded great with the professionalism he maintained to pull it off. The band played two more covers throughout the night with “Aenema” by Tool, and “Would?” by Alice in Chains.

Once the band stepped off stage after playing “I Will Not Bow” from 2009’s “Dear Agony,” you can really hear how well the fan base in Detroit is for the guys in Breaking Benjamin. Of course, they had one more very recognizable song left for their encore. Coming back on stage, the crowd erupts with glory as they come into their final song of the night with “The Diary of Jane” off of 2006’s “Phobia.” That was a great way to end such an amazing and unique evening with Breaking Benjamin.
