Bethune-Cookman rolls over FAMU

The Rattlers were rattled after a week off due to weather, as FAMU was pounded by Bethune-Cookman, 88-56....

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ith blizzard conditions keeping the Rattlers off the hardwood for over a week, they finally returned to action Saturday night against Bethune-Cookman.

FAMU (6-14, 2-5) probably would have been better staying home as Bethune-Cookman (7-15, 4-4) stomped the Rattlers 88-56. The Wildcat senior forward Mario Moody had himself a career game, tallying up 25 points after scoring just six against Howard the Tuesday before.

With 7:23 to play in the first half, it was a three-point game. But a Jordan Potts rebound and three pointer pushed the lead to 18-24 for the Wildcats. Bethune-Cookman then went on a 17-7 run to end the first half.

Lewis Francois opened the second half with a layup and a three pointer for FAMU, Wildcat’s own Ricky Johnson also connected from three, which brought the game to 30-44 with 18:50 remaining. Johnson’s three would spark another Wildcats run, as they put up seven unanswered to pull away 30-51.

On a game that was built around Bethune-Cookman runs, its only fitting that the Wildcats would finish the game in the same manner, with an 11-3 run to end the game.

Sophomore guard Craig Bowman led Florida A&M with 19 points and eight rebounds, while senior forward Malcolm Bernard put up 15 points and seven rebounds.

FAMU returns home, hoping to turn things around when they face North Carolina Central (7-14, 2-5) on Monday, February 1 at 8 P.M.
