[dropcap]F[/dropcap]lint, Michigan natives, It Lies Within, are out to prove a point this year with the release of their brand new “Paramount” due out January 8th through Luxor Records.
I have to admit, I am a little biased with these dudes. I remember when I was looking for a new local metal band to get my blood pumping years ago. That’s when I came across It Lies Within and I haven’t looked back. So as I grew, I also watched them grow as musicians and the progression really shines through with Paramount.
From start to finish, Paramount does not let up on the thunderous drums, the bone chilling guitar riffs, and the deep yet delicate vocals from front man Zachary Scott. Starting things off with “Ecdysis,” which you can also check out the music video for, the track pulls you in and makes you want more. Without giving away too much, they have a few guest vocalists from some very familiar bands on three of their tracks.
Their newest single “Never Surrender” features Telle Smith of The Word Alive. I would say that this is my favorite track off the album, but every song just continues to impress me, especially with the other guest vocals they were able to grab. Never Surrender really speaks to me, as a person who thought about giving up on his dreams many times in his life.
Closing out the album is “Till We Meet Again.” Yet again, these guys are set to deliver a message to the world. What I really love about this closing track is the background vocals of bassist Erik McKay. I feel like he really shines through with his capabilities as a vocalist in this track. With every song never letting down and with the powerful message these guys are sending out, Paramount will definitely be in my running for a top album in 2016.
