Eagles soar on the road, roll against Cowboys

Eastern Michigan regains momentum after the Eagles roll Wyoming, 48-29....

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]fter its home opening loss to Old Dominion last week, the Eastern Michigan University football team wanted to come out firing and not put itself in position to let another game slip away.

The Eagles scored 38 points in the first half  to roll to a 48-29 victory over the University of Wyoming on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

It’s EMU’s first road win dating back to 2012, snapping a 14-game losing streak.  It also marked their first non-conference road victory since 1988.

Redshirt sophomore Brogan Roback made his first start since last September and set a career high, completing 17-of-24 passes for 3 touchdowns.  Roback started in place of Reggie Bell Jr., who was sidelined after suffering a injury last week.

On the ground, Shaq Vann led the way for the Eagles with a career high 129 yards on 16 carries for two touchdowns.  It was his first 100-yard game in his career.

Great Ibe led the way for the EMU defense with 10 tackles, while redshirt Clay Dawson added four tackles, including a sack and forced fumble.

While the offense shined in recording over 500 yards through the air and ground, the defense was the real star in this time around.  After allowing the Old Dominion offense to escape with a win last week, the Green and White defense clamped down on the Cowboys as they only allowed 32 yards passing.

The Eagles would lead by as many as 31 points after taking a 38-7 lead towards the end of the second quarter.

EMU will return home to Rynearson Stadium next week, Sept. 19, to kick off Mid-American Conference play against Ball State University.  Kickoff at “The Factory” is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3
