[dropcap]L[/dropcap]et’s just get a few things out of the way before I begin this week’s ROTR Throwback:
1. These photos were actually taken at Royal Oak Music Theatre in Royal Oak, Mich. The only year I have attended Rock On The Range with Halestorm performing was in 2012, and I was just there to have fun. They played in 2013 and I did press, but I arrived later that day after covering Illinois girls track.
2. The interview is from two days after their Grammy nomination in 2012. It’s the longest video interview of mine to date.
3. I might be a bit obsessed with this band, but how can you not be?
Halestorm returns next weekend to Rock On The Range, appearing for the band’s fifth time. Lzzy Hale, Arejay Hale, Josh Smith and Joe Hottinger join the likes of Linkin Park, Rise Against and Volbeat for a 4:55 P.M. performance Sunday, May 17 at MAPFRE Stadium.
The band is touring in support of their April release Into The Wildlife, featuring current singles “Amen” and “Apocalyptica.” Into The Wildlife might be the band’s best album to date, but again, I love this group.
Unbiased journalism is out the window here.
This week’s ROTR Throwback features multiple photos from Halestorm’s performance in 2012 in Royal Oak, two days following the band’s Grammy nomination for “Love Bites (And So Do I),” which they went on to win in 2013.

As a bonus, I am including an interview I did with Lzzy and Josh before their performance that night in December 2012. Joining me is former Pit music editor David McDonald as we engage the duo in a near 20-minute long interview backstage. Following the interview, Arejay and Joe entered the room with the entire band interacting with us, making a lasting impression on David and I.
Catch Halestorm during the final day of Rock On The Range, which runs May 15-17 at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The festival is headlined by Slipknot, Judas Priest and Linkin Park. The Pit will be at ROTR bringing you live coverage, including photos, videos, interviews and reviews — including one with Halestorm!
