[dropcap]C[/dropcap]olumbus Crew SC announced Thursday that the club has reached a new deal with goalkeeper Steve Clark.
Clark, 28, entered Major League Soccer prior to the 2014 season and joined Crew SC via trade in December 2013. The Mason, Michigan native and graduate of Oakland University started every match and played every minute for the club during his first full campaign. He is one of just five players to reach that mark.
Seen as one of the League’s best goalkeepers, Clark has ranked in the top five for clean sheets, saves and clearances since coming to Columbus. In 2014, he was named a finalist for the 2014 Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year award.
“As a leader on the field and in the community, we are excited to have Steve Clark committed to Columbus for the foreseeable future,” Crew SC Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter said in a press release Thursday morning. “His attributes complement our system and over the course of a year, Steve has established himself among the League’s top goalkeepers.”
Last year, Clark finished with a 14-10-10 record with a goals-against average of 1.24 and 111 saves. Those numbers tied him for both second in the League in saves as well as fourth in wins. Clark recorded five or more saves on nine separate occasions.
Clark held MLS highs among goalkeepers in 2014 for total passes (866), successful passes (673) and passing accuracy (77.7-percent).
Per MLS policy, further details of the new contract were not disclosed.
