[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here’s no denying it: Jerian Grant is the star of this Irish team.
The fifth-year senior led the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish to a 60-58 win over ACC rival Clemson. Grant scored 22 points, shooting 50-percent for the night for a 7-of-14 mark while sinking all 7 free throws in the win.
With just a few minutes left, Grant took control of the game with the Irish down, 56-52. Grant would hit two shots from the line and then steal the ball away from Clemson attackers, leading to a layup by Demetrius Jackson for the go-ahead basket at 58-56.
Grant hit a fadeaway to secure Notre Dame’s final points and to put the game away.
With the win, Notre Dame improves to 22-4 on the year, going 10-3 in the ACC. Notre Dame lost Saturday on the road to a dominate Duke team, 90-60.
”We’re coming off two road losses and we wanted to get our swagger back on the road,” Grant said following the game. ”Clemson is a tough environment. We needed this one.”
Pat Connaughton put up 14 points — including nine from distance — while Jackson finished with 11.
The Irish have the next week off, returning to Purcell Pavilion February 17 against Wake Forest.
