[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ne talented high school backcourt tandem could be reunited at the O’rena a year from now.

Redshirt sophomore guard Sherron Dorsey-Walker, who announced in mid-December that he’d be transferring from Iowa State, tweeted Saturday afternoon that he had chosen Oakland University as his destination.

The Cyclones transfer has ties with several former teammates who currently play for the Golden Grizzlies. Dorsey-Walker, ranked No. 125 in the Rivals150 for the Class of 2012, played high school ball at Detroit Pershing with Oakland sophomore point guard Kahlil Felder, last year’s Horizon League Freshman of the Year. He’ll also be linking back up with forward Percy Gibson, who transferred to Oakland last June from Ames and is currently sitting out due to NCAA transfer rules.

Dorsey-Walker, who was still competing for increased playing time under coach Fred Hoiberg, played 18 minutes and scored two points when Iowa State defeated Oakland 93-82 early this season. He played sparingly as a freshman last season, but scored a career-high 17 points against UMKC when he got extended run.

“Sherron informed me that he has decided to transfer to a new school,” Hoiberg said in a statement released last month. “He has been a great teammate and student-athlete. I’ve enjoyed coaching him and will assist him in any way I can as he looks for a new school. We wish Sherron the best in the future.”

An Academic All-Big 12 Second-Team in 2013-14, the former Doughboy was a member of the 2009 team that won the MHSAA Class A State Title, along with former Michigan State guard Keith Appling.

Scouting Report: When he becomes eligible, he should function primarily as a shooting guard for Greg Kampe’s team, but could see minutes as a small forward in a small-ball lineup where Oakland would look to run. He can excel in multiple facets in the transition game, and the 6-foot-4 lefty is a good spot-up shooter who can also drive to the hoop. Dorsey-Walker is also a plus passer.
