[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Good Jay Cutler vs. The Bad Jay Cutler. This has been the ongoing debate since the quarterback put on the number 6 of Chicago on his back.
Cutler has his good games; see the San Francisco Sunday night game. Then Cutler will have his bad games; see almost any game against the Green Bay Packers.
Sunday was really no different as the Bears dropped to 2-2 on the season, losing both home games this year. Cutler now has a lifetime record of 1-10 against the hated rival Packers.
Green Bay (2-2) quarterback Aaron Rodgers stated earlier in the week to Packers fans that they needed to “R-E-L-A-X” since its a long season and the Pack have had some early struggles to start the year. Rodgers threw for 302 yards and four touchdowns. He finished the game completing 22-of-28 passes and tossed two touchdown passes each to Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson and racked up 358 total yards against a much maligned Bears defense.
Chicago was without defensive end Jared Allen after he missed Sunday’s game with pneumonia.
Cutler finished the game with 256 yards passing, two touchdowns and two costly interceptions. The Bears basically matched the Packers score for score before Cutler threw those interceptions.
The biggest play of the game came moments before halftime when Bears tight end Martellus Bennett snagged a throw from Cutler at the 2 yard line and tried reaching towards the end zone as Packers defensive back Ha Ha Clinton-Dix stuffed Bennett at the goal line as time expired. The play was reviewed and was eventually ruled no score since there wasn’t clear evidence to overturn the call on the field.
Both offenses were very effective Sunday — either that or both defenses struggled that bad — that neither team tallied a punt. That random tid bit has happened only once before in a regular season game, in 1992.
Bears running back Matt Forte had a bounce back game and scampered for 122 yards on 23 carries. Bennett finished with nine catches and 134 yards, wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey combined for 59 receiving yards and one touchdown catch by Jeffrey.
Next up on the Bears schedule is an away game Sunday at the Carolina Panthers and former Bear player and defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.
