Crew draw Dynamo, 2-2

A second half rally helped the Columbus Crew earn the 2-2 draw with the Houston Dynamo to stay alive in the postseason hunt....

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] pair of second-half goals helped erase a two-goal deficit and lift the Columbus Crew to a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dynamo Saturday.

Wil Trapp scored his first career MLS goal to halve the Houston lead while Ethan Finlay headed home the equalizer in the 54th minute that proved to be enough to earn the Crew a point.

“It was a disappointing first half but to pull two back in the second half, you know, away in a tough place to play, I think we’re happy with it,” Finlay said following the match. “We look at the positives in this game and the negatives and we move forward.”

Finlay credited the Crew’s success in the first ten minutes of the second half to settling down and being more patient.

Both goals were assisted by Waylon Francis, who notched his fifth and sixth of the campaign and is now  tied with Federico Higuain for the club lead in 2014.

In the first half, Aaron Schoenfeld tallied an own goal while Giles Barnes earned a tally to give the Dynamo a 2-0 lead.

“It’s pretty clear the first half wasn’t great,” coach Gregg Berhalter said following the match. “I think we were too impatient and too inaccurate with our passing and as a result we turned the ball over too easily.”

Berhalter continued to say that the second half, the Crew turned it around and that he is proud of his team.

“This is a tough place to play,” Berhalter said. “It’s not easy and Houston has a great home record and especially giving up two goals, it took a lot.”

The draw keeps the Crew in MLS Cup Playoff position, sitting in the fifth and final spot in the Eastern Conference with six matches remaining. The Crew return home next weekend to take on the New England Revolution.
